November began with freezing temps and December started with highs in the 70’s. That’s North Carolina for you. Most of November was very cold. I only got in one long run outside. I have become very consistent with twelve-minute miles. I can string together six of them now. I’m pretty happy with that.
My back is bothering me again, but it feels better after I run. Sitting around is problematic, so I try to keep moving. This is not easy to do when I have to read or grade papers. Getting old is not for the faint-hearted. The good news is that my shins are better. I’ve added a good bit of mileage this month without a problem. I’ve been doing four miles every weekday morning and six miles on Saturdays. I try to get outside for a walk on Sunday afternoons if it’s warm enough. According to my fitbit, I averaged seven miles and 50 active minutes per day in November. I also lost some more weight for a total of sixty pounds and I’m down another pant size. I’m buying the same size jeans I wore in high school–but I weigh a lot more. I’m thinking sizing has changed considerably since the 70’s. Still, it feels pretty good.
I’m currently participating in the Runner’s World Holiday Running Streak. The challenge is to run at least a mile a day every day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. This is the perfect motivator for me. I can do it on my own time at my own pace, but I still feel like I’m participating with other runners. I like it. My goal for this month is to maintain my fitness level through the holidays and I think this challenge will help me do it. when January comes I will reevaluate and consider running goals for 2015.
